Case Study in Bakish / by Karim Nader

In the tradition of the case study, this one in Bakish composes with the rocks in oblique angles to catch the selected views of valley and mountain, and concrete prefabrication to cut cost and construction time. Conceived as a grey on grey onto the grey canvas of the natural, the materiality assumes a radicalness in the rawness of the concrete inside, and the silver of the zinc outside. Three volumes scatter on the site, each one as its own house with a loft and pitched roof, one to house the parents, one for the two children and their guests, one for a kitchen and service spaces.

A promenade of organic grey local lava stone passes through the house to create a radical in between, this time fully glazed and operable, with curtains for projections or to dress the house differently in every season. On the roof of this in-between, a zen garden, in shades of grey, connects to the terrace deck below, and to the organic pool, like bathing in one’s own thermae.
