A simple concrete structure is looking for a new life. Located in the modest neighborhood of Chiah in Beirut, it is to become the headquarters of a progressive pharmaceutical company. Simply redrawn on its existing structural lines, the project is a restrained simplification of the building both in shape, materiality and color.
A middle grey in terrazzo, aluminum and concrete is selected as a neutral background for a ground landscaping and a rooftop. Programmatically, the project has a commercial ground floor, two interconnected floors for the headquarters offices and a rooftop terrace as a social space with views towards the various Beirut neighborhoods.
We wish for such an approach to refresh neighborhoods in transformation and to inspire the re-use of existing structures rather than the default demolitions.
Project Status: Unbuilt.
